First Qualifying bet

Postby Ryanefc10 » Fri Aug 20, 2010 8:24 pm

Hi guys, i am totally new to this back and lay concept, so i'd just like to ask a couple of questions.

Firstly, when i'm doing my first qualifying bet, do I just back with the bookies? Or do i also lay with betfair etc? This hasn't seemed too clear with me.

I get the concept of when you get your free bet and then you both back and lay, but once the free bet is used, do I then go use different bookmakers free bets?

One last thing is, how much could actually be made in profit here? I recently lost quite a significant amount of money by normal betting, and i'm really aiming to win as much back as possible by this method, as it seems like there is no possible loss of my own money.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

I suppose I am just a little cautious and need these things clearing up before I go and do it.

Read through the tutorial again and do some dry runs before attempting this.
You should ALWAYS lay your back bets no matter if it's a free bet or qualifier.
If you don't lay the bets then you are just gambling. Follow the instructions and you are guaranteed to make money.

Second everything that bull said but also add the caveat.

Be honest with yourself, you mention you've lost a significant amount gambling. Do you / Did you have a gambling problem?

If you did then stay clear of any form of gambling because the temptation will always be there. If you were just an unlucky recreational gambler then you should be able to recoup your losses

Thanks for the advice, and I will read over the tutorial again, and have a few practice bets using the calculator etc.

How long does it take to make decent amount of money am talking 1000+?

I know it will take alot of patience and time.

Also will it ever come a time where no free bets will be available to use?

I did lose a fair amount of money, it was a bit of both, unlucky with bets, and getting abit ahead of myself, and maybe betting abit too much money on certain bets.

I don't have a desire to bet as much, or make money, I actually just want to gain as much money I can that i had previously lost when gambling. I don't have a bad gambling addiction because I will only bet on one event - football, and only on teams I really know well.

Thanks for your advice though guys, I am taking it into account, and having a good think before going ahead with it.

I agree with Bull too, I'm well into Matchbetting but have never really considered myself to be a gambler, I don't really suffer the temptation that a normal punt gambler may. If you have the discipline to always back and lay and can remember that there is NEVER a dead cert then you'll be fine.

I made £1,000 profit in 3 months with a £200 float, some people would easily clear this amount in 2 weeks, it really depends how much float and time you've got. Dont rush it though as mistakes could cost you money!

I consider the maximum to easily make off one account to be £2,500. Jethro is blogging how much he can make from one account in another thread. I think its called "How much can be made from one account" he's currently on about £1,250.

Welcome on board Ryanefc10 :)
Just my tuppence worth-never ever ever give in to any temptation to not lay your bets. We've all been tempted if we're honest but very wierd and unexpected things can and do happen...
I'd also strongly advise any newbie to try and never withdraw any winnings from bookies. Try and arb it out instead. By ensuring you are a profitable customer you're more likely to get maximum reloads and less likely to be gubbed. Enjoy :D

Thanks bigjas :)

I had to look on the abbreviations topic, to understand what you was saying there, but i got the jist of it.

So a little advice when making my first qualifying bet, is it typically best to back a dead cert (even though there is no such thing as a dead cert), for instance Arsenal Vs Blackpool today? And also what would you say is the best odds to go for when doing first bet?

As i've said am new to this and will be reading the introduction page over and over.

Thanks

When I'm placing a qualifying bet I don't care who wins. I know that I will make the same amount regardless of the winner. Within reason it doesn't matter who you back, what matters is the odds. You need to find a qualifying bet which loses you the least amount of money, whatever team that happens to be on.

Always check the Bookies terms for minimum odds. Quite a lot have minimum odds of 2.0 (Evs) and stick to mainstream leagues. Generally no bookie will be suspicious if you're backing a British team or the main European leagues. Start backing obscure eastern European markets and your holding a neon sign saying "Matched Bettor"

Yeah i see why you wouldnt want to be betting on eastern european games etc. So when you've used your free bet at a certain bookies, its best to keep the money in the account?

And also, once you've used the free bet from one bookie, go to the next one and use the free bet on offer there? Another thing is, do they tend to send alot of mail through the post? Because that is one thing I could do without haha.

I've back coventry to beat derby today with bet365's 20pound bet I have (already been a member for a good few months) and also layed against them.
I was tempted to back Everton today against Wolves. but as Everton are my team, am not taking any chances at all! Don't like the idea of backing or laying against the team I support, no matter how safe!

Thanks everyone for their help. Much appreciated.
