I am running office 2007 and can open the xlsm file and output as lots of different file types even html which may be worth a try.

Well at least I don`t the get the error message when I open your modified bull version.

It is still read only but at least I can still use it for free as I haven`t paid for office or excel. It just causes me a bit of hassle when saving changes in that i have to save as and use a different name each time and delete the old name file.

Thanks for all your help anyway bull and I will search on google for how to make a file not just read only.

Having said all that , would you believe it , I have just opened it again and the Read only message at the top of the screen has gone.

Closed it , opened it again and it is still not there so it could be problem solved. Hopefully when I restart the computer tomorrow it won`t reappear.

Sod it, I`m going to restart the computer now to see what happens.

I`ll be surprised if it does have problems when i restart but you never know.

If it works stick the damn thing onto a floppy disk and keep it somewhere safe so we don't have to do this again in 6 months time.

erm spoke too soon I think. I just tried to open it again and it says it "is locked for editing"


yes got your email. it says open "read only" or click `notify` to open read only and receive notification when the document is no longer in use.

Looks like it`s back to read only, don`t know why the hell it`s done that.
