What exactly do you mean by don't work?
Don't download?
Don't open?
Don't let you save?
If they open but don't let you save you may have some dodgy setting in excel - maybe disabled macros or something - that is causing the problem.
The only other suggestion I have is to download Open office (which is free) and try using their excel equivalent.

The XSML one I got the same message "windows cant find the appropriate program to open the file"
The other one it opened but just a load of illegible text on the spreadsheet

Did you try opening it from within excel - file open etc?

That one opens ok but it is still read only.
The excel I am using is from a toolbar not from trial or paid for version. Is that the problem? I have other files that open fine though and are not read only.

You have to enable macros within excel. Open the file and go to options or macros and enable the feature and it should then save the data.
I never use this FEM thing and I'm crap with excel.

I have opened macros but there is no "enable macros"
