Newbie embarrassing question!!

Postby zeddy » Mon Nov 24, 2008 12:39 pm

Hi,

I'm embarrassed to write this as you all are experts.

But i've literally just joined up.

I've joined Betfair- what is my next step.

If i want to bet on the champions league tomorrow night, what is my best option and how do then do a free bet?
Do i need to then open an account with Skybet?
If Skybet offer free £20 and Betfair free £10 - how does it work?

Sorry for all these basic questions.

But please help?

Thanks.

My advice would be to read through all the instructions on the site in order, it's a pretty good explanation of how things work.

Then I'd do some dummy runs on paper first, load up Betfair and the bookie of your choice (not sure if sky have the best offers currently, try william hill where I think its currently bet £25 get a free £50 if you enter the code: SUN5 when signing up.

Make sure you've got your head around betfair and how it works (confused the hell out of me for a while!) so you know what to put in each box.

Do some test runs so you get it, then if pos try post the odds etc you are looking at on here so we can check t out for you.

Trust me we aint experts, none of us have been doing it for that long. It's just one of those things that seems real complicated at first but then when it clicks its a piece of piss!

I'll give you an example of how that scenario would work :

Say Arsenal to draw is 3.5 to back at Skyand also 3.5 to lay at Betfair.

You need to bet £20 to get your free bet so sign up, deposit and bet with Sky.

Then you need to have £50.72 in your Betfair account to potentialy lose if the draw doesn't happen, so deposit £50.72 into Betfair and Lay the draw.

Job done, no matter what happens you will lose 72p. -But gain a free £20 bet.

Don't worry about Betfairs free £10 yet, they won't credit it for 24 hours anyway so you can use that for part 2.

Thats part one over.

I can vouch for what James said - no experts at all but I'm sure there will be plenty of people to help. Its a little bizzar in that when you 1st read it ( esp if you know nothing about betting like me ) it will seem confusing but when you 1st do it it really is simple.

Let us know if you need any help

Plenty of help here - just ask :D
Bwin is possibly one of the easiest to do as there is no qualifying bet required. Just read the instructions on the bwin review page. Deposit your money to earn the bonus - it doesn't get any easier - then find a bet at odds at around 6 or 7 and match it at betfair. Job done.

It is strongly advised to read, re read and then read again, to understand the instructions. Then read it some more just for luck :D

Thanks guys for your help, it is much appreciated.

Read & read again, i'm gonna be reading all night!

So here' the actual scenario for my first bet.

Please tell me if what I am doing is correct.

The odds of Arsenal winning 1-0 is 6.5 on skybet

On Betfair would i be laying against Arsenal to win 1-0 (odds are 8.4)?

If i put £20 on skybet I would win £110 if arsenal won 1-0 & i would therefore lose £74 on Betfair.

But If they win 2-0 I lose my £20 skybet, how much would I win at Betfair??

sorry guys for being confusing, its much easier with real life examples.

You need to find odds that are closer together.

so what difference should there be between the two bets?

If one is 6 and another is 5 is that still too much?

Well it depends what level of guaranteed profit you are happy with.
If one is 6 and one is 5 that may be just about ok but ideally you want to be backing at say 6 and laying at 6.2 or something similar. It may take you 15 mins to find the right bet but it is usually worth it.

so for the qualifying bet it is always better to Lay at a slightly higher odds?
