Newbie Help

Postby daniel123 » Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:42 pm

Hello all,

Im a complete newb and have only just registered on here and I would like to ask a question, probably the most basic question you have ever had on here but im just slightly confused.

Say you bet Wigan to Win Man U and Lay Wigan to Win Man U, what happens if its a draw? Do you lose you money, free bet etc? Is that just the risk with football betting?

Sorry for the lame question, im sure if I get through my initial newbie status I will be able to contribute to this forum in a more knowledgeable manner.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi mate , welcome to FEM....if you back say man u to win , if they win you win at bookies and you would lose at your betting exchange, your lay bet at the exchange covers the loss and draw, because your betting against man u winning so any other result, namely a draw or loss will win at exchange. Some bookies will only give you free bet if you lose, but most will give you it lose or win....look through this site , there is loads of good info of all the people on here, hope this helps... ;)

No worries. A bookie (back) bet eg Wigan, would be on them to win the game. A betfair lay bet, again on Wigan is for them to NOT WIN the game. From this you can see that a draw will cone under the lay bet, as they have not won. The lay bet on the same selection covers all the other possible outcomes- even in a 100+ runners horse race.
The important bit is to back and lay the same selection eg Wigan.
You could potentially get it very wrong if you backed Wigan and layed Man utd ( eg if Man utd won) you'd lose both back and lay bets

Thank you both for the warm welcome and information.

Finding a site like this is always a bonus but finding a site with members that are willing to give good advice and friendly at the same time is top notch.

I completely understand the laying now and that a draw comes under the lay bet, thinking about it its quite logical ;)

Thanks again and wish me luck :D
